Homes and housing
Jerome's built environment dates largely to its mining-era boom, when the town was home to nearly 15,000 residents in the early 1900s before major mining activity ended in 1953. Many of the town's structures are historic mining-town buildings; the Jerome Historic District is designated a National Historic Landmark. The Douglas Mansion, a large adobe structure built in 1916 by the Douglas family, is one of the town's notable historic buildings, now preserved as a museum rather than a residence.
Things to do
Jerome State Historic Park preserves the Douglas Mansion, built in 1916 beside the Little Daisy Mine, with museum exhibits on mining history, photographs, artifacts, and views of the Verde Valley. The park opened to the public in October 1965 after previously serving as the Douglas family home. The town also has art galleries, wine-tasting rooms, shops, restaurants, and the Audrey Headframe Park, a historic site with remnants of the Audrey Mine.
